Bachelor of Architecture

The Department of Architecture at Ewha Womans University strives to nurture female leaders who will be active in the field of architecture with the vision of ‘educating female architects as value creators’. Despite its relatively short history (established in 1994), the Department of Architecture has full-time faculty with the best knowledge and expertise, and boasts the highest faculty/student ratio in Korea. The faculty's research fields cover architecture history, architecture theory, sustainability, housing, architectural design, interior design, urban design, and digital architectural design. Architecture program in Ewha Womans University provides more opportunities for students to participate independently and develop leadership in the special environment of a women's university. In addition, 11 full-time architecture professors and a large number of excellent adjunct professors provides intimate connection and architecture education. It help students have opportunities to train and develop their qualifications and competencies to enter into society and demonstrate leadership as professional women. Most of the full-time faculty members are holders of domestic or foreign architect's license. Based on their rich experience, professors strive to foster competent future female architects through practical-oriented architectural design education. In accordance with the accreditation standards of the Korea Accreditation for Architecture Education (KAAB) and the educational goals and curriculum system of Ewha Womans University, students who complete this program are awarded a 'Bachelor of Architecture' degree. Currently(as of 2022), the requirements for degree is to register for 5 years(10 semesters) and take at least 154 credits completing the curriculum of the Architecture(5 year) major.

architectural education accreditation (KAAB)

The five-year architecture curriculum is accredited by the Korea Architectural Accrediting Board (KAAB) and grants an internationally accepted Bachelor of Architecture degree. The Bachelor of Architecture degree from Ewha Womans University is a program that complies with the accreditation standards and procedures presented by KAAB and obtained a professional degree in architecture education. It is a professional degree program simultaneously recognized by the Canberra Accord accreditation organizations and UNESCOꠓUIA UVCAE. It is a global trend to require ‘professional degree program’ to be a registered architect. Architecture education for ‘professional degree program’ in Korea is operated as a five-year undergraduate degree program by the selection of the educational institution, and must undergo regular accreditation examinations to maintain the accreditation. KAAB conducts accreditation audits based on accreditation standards and procedures. Each educational program may receive 6-year accreditation, 4-year accreditation, conditional 3-year accreditation, accreditation deferral or rejection depending on the evaluation result. The Bachelor of Architecture degree education program at Ewha Womans University acquired the first five-year accreditation in 2011, the second five-year accreditation in 2016, and the third six-year accreditation in 2021.
