The Department of English Education at Ewha Womans University succeeds the Department of Foreign Language Education, which was comprised of the English Education Major (established in 1964) and the French Education Major (established in 1968). By 1998, The Department of Foreign Language Education grew into a large department with an enrollment capacity of 60 students for the English Education Major and 40 for the French Education Major. However, after the English Education Major became an independent department in 1999, the name of the Department of Foreign Language Education was changed to the Department of English Education.
