Doctoral degree programs were established in 2005. There are three programs: Interpretation studies; Translation studies; and Interpretation & Translation studies. 

Applicants for Interpretation programs take oral exams; applicants for Translation programs take translation exams.

Applicants in all language concentrations (except for Korean-English) can apply for both Interpretation and Translation as their first and second choices.

Anyone with an undergraduate bachelor’s degree can apply, regardless of their majors or GPA.

Anyone with a bachelor’s degree is eligible.

If you have a bachelor’s degree, you can apply. Please ask the GSTI faculty staff for more details.

Those who will graduate in March the following year can also apply.

Applicants must submit the printed copy of their online application form and other required documents to Ewha GSTI by mail.

Newly admitted students can take a year off after they are registered as students. Taking a year off is not allowed if not registered, and in this case, students’ admission is cancelled.

Ewha GSTI recognizes any Korean nationals staying abroad who have attained permanent residency status in foreign countries as “Korean nationals residing abroad”.


Therefore, even if you possess a Korean passport, if your Korean Identification Number does not begin with the number “2”, you have to submit a certificate of level 4 or above in TOPIK. The certificate must be valid on the application deadline.
