The Master's and Doctoral Degree programs in the Department of English Education were established in 1999 and 2001, respectively. The curriculum for the Master’s Degree program focuses on a systematic approach to theories and methodologies for the improvement of English teaching skills, while also concentrating on links with adjacent disciplines. The organization of the curriculum enables students to not only study in depth of theoretical knowledge, such as methodologies of English education and effective teaching of the English languages, but also sharpen procedural skills, including the ability to effectively teach English and evaluation techniques, demanded in actual English-teaching settings.
The Doctoral Degree program in the Department of English Education is composed of three majors: Teaching English as a Foreign Language, Applied Linguistics, and Multimedia Assisted Language Learning. In the major of Teaching English as a Foreign Language, doctoral candidates investigate theories and practices of effectively teaching English as a foreign language. In Applied Linguistics, candidates study, both educationally and academically, theories of language acquisition, discourse analysis, psycholinguistic, and social language based on English studies. Candidates in Multimedia Assisted Language Learning examine theories and practices related to the effective teaching of the English language through the use of advanced forms of media, including the Internet, multimedia, and computers.
Our program offers students advanced classes and field experience opportunities to broaden and deepen students' knowledge of English education. Through the curriculum, the graduate program strives to develop new theories and methods in the field of English Education.
After receiving master's and doctoral degrees, students can choose from a wide range of career options. Our alumni assume key positions in teaching (both public and private sectors in Korea and abroad), administration, research, evaluation, curriculum/ program development, and teacher education.
