As part of the APEC Leaders’ Meeting to be held in Gyeongju, the “APEC 2025 Korea Public-Private Dialogue” will take place this August at Songdo Convensia, Incheon.

Korea is preparing to host the APEC Leaders’ Meeting in Gyeongju as the chair of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) for the first time in 20 years since the 2005 Busan summit. APEC is the largest economic cooperation forum in the Asia-Pacific region, representing over 60% of the world’s GDP and more than 50% of total global trade. It consists of 21 member economies, including Korea, the United States, China, Japan, and Russia. APEC aims to promote regional economic integration and prosperity by pursuing balanced, inclusive, sustainable, and innovative growth. Under this goal, APEC actively discusses and addresses structural factors affecting economic growth among its member economies.

As the APEC chair in 2025, Korea has set two core priorities: Responding to Demographic Changes and Cooperation on Artificial Intelligence (AI).

First, Korea seeks to establish a foundation for joint policy cooperation within APEC to turn common demographic challenges in the Asia-Pacific region—such as low birth rates and aging populations—into opportunities for future growth and innovation.

Second, acknowledging the rapid advancement and spread of AI technologies and their impact on economic transformation, Korea aims to propose a shared framework within APEC for utilizing AI as a driver of innovation, productivity improvement, and sustainable growth.

In this context, the “APEC 2025 Korea Public-Private Dialogue” will be held from August 11 to 12, 2025, at Songdo Convensia in Incheon, bringing together public, private, and academic representatives from APEC member economies to discuss AI and demographic challenges. To reflect the voices of youth—who represent the future of the Asia-Pacific region facing demographic changes and AI transformation—at this year’s APEC cooperation agenda, an English Essay Contest will be held to select presenters for the event. We encourage interested individuals to participate actively.

Contest Topics (Choose one):

1. Responding to Demographic Changes
   Youth proposals for multilateral cooperation within APEC to address challenges such as low birth rates and aging populations.

2. AI Cooperation
   Youth proposals for multilateral cooperation within APEC to achieve prosperity in the era of AI transformation.

Eligibility:

• Age: 19 to 34 years old (as of January 1, 2026)

• Residency: Residents of the Republic of Korea (including foreign nationals from APEC member economies residing in Korea)

• Participation: Individual or team (up to 3 members)

Awards (2 winners per topic):

• Grand Prize: KRW 1,000,000 + opportunity to present at the APEC 2025 Public-Private Dialogue session

• Excellence Award: KRW 500,000 + opportunity to present at the APEC 2025 Public-Private Dialogue session

Selection Process:

Step 1: Essay Review

• Select 6 individuals/teams per topic (3 times the final number)

• English essay within 1,000 words

• Submission period: May 30 (Fri) – June 30 (Mon), 2025

• Announcement of first-round results: July 10 (Thu), 2025

Step 2: In-person English Presentation

• Date: Week of July 14, 2025 (exact schedule to be announced)

• Format: English presentation with PPT

• Final results announced within 7 days after the presentation

• Use of generative AI tools such as ChatGPT is prohibited

• Plagiarism, submissions previously entered in other contests, or published works are not allowed

• Violations will result in disqualification and revocation of awards

경주에서 개최되는 APEC 정상회의의 일환으로, 오는 8월 인천 송도에서 「APEC 2025 민관대화 (APEC 2025 Korea Public-Private Dialogue)」 행사가 개최될 예정입니다.

우리나라는 2005년 부산 APEC 정상회의 이후 20년 만에 다시 아시아․태평양 경제협력체(APEC) 의장국을 맡아 경주에서 APEC 정상회의 개최를 준비하고 있습니다.  

APEC은 세계 GDP의 60% 이상,  총 교역량의 50% 이상을 차지하는  아시아․태평양 지역 최대 경제협력체로, 우리나라, 미국, 중국, 일본, 러시아 등 총 21개 회원이 참여하고 있습니다.

APEC은 지역경제통합 및 역내 번영 증진을 목표로 하는 경제협력체로, 균형 있고, 포용적이며, 지속가능하고, 혁신적인 성장을 추구합니다.
이러한 목표 아래, APEC은 회원국 간 경제 성장에 영향을 주는 구조적 요소를 적극 논의하고 공동 대응해 나가고 있습니다.

우리나라는 올해 APEC 의장국으로서“인구구조 변화 대응”과 “인공지능(AI) 협력”을 두 가지 핵심 성과로 제시했습니다.

먼저,  우리나라는 저출생·고령화 등  아시아․태평양 지역이 공통으로  당면한  인구구조  변화를 미래 성장과 혁신의 기회로  전환하기 위한 APEC 차원의 공동 정책협력의 기반을 APEC 회원들과 만들어가려 합니다.

또한, AI 기술의 급속한 발전과 확산이 경제 전환에 미치는 영향에 주목하여, AI가 경제의 혁신 촉진, 생산성 향상,지속가능한 성장의 동력이 될 수 있도록 APEC 차원의 공동의 AI 활용 방향성과 실천의 틀을 제안하고자 합니다.

상기 관련, 오는 8.11-12간 인천시 송도컨벤시아에서 APEC 회원들의 공공, 민간, 학계 인사들이 참여하여 AI와 인구변화 대응에 대해 논의하는 “APEC 2025 민관대화 (APEC 2025 Korea Public-Private Dialogue)”를 개최합니다. 인구 변화와 AI 전환을 마주하는 아태지역의미래 주체인  청년층의  목소리를 올해  APEC 협력 방향에 반영하고자,  “APEC 2025 민관대화”행사 발표자 선발을 위해 아래와 같이 영문 에세이 공모전을 개최하고자 하니관심 있는 분들의 많은 응모 바랍니다.
