On April 3, we had the opportunity to welcome Mr. Jungho Park, Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer(CSO) at MYSC, who delivered an insightful lecture on MYSC’s blended finance approach and its role in advancing impact investment. The session began by introducing blended finance as a model that combines public funding and private capital to scale social impact, with MYSC recognized as a pioneer in developing and implementing this approach. As an intermediary, MYSC connects diverse stakeholders and structures investments that address social and environmental challenges while generating financial returns.

The lecture also highlighted MYSC’s evolution from a small nonprofit consultancy into a leading South Korean impact investment and accelerator firm, now managing approximately $70 million in assets. Mr. Park introduced KOICA’s Development Innovation Program (DIP) and MYSC’s active role in Inclusive Business Solutions (IBS), through which the organization implements blended finance projects across Southeast Asia and India. These initiatives focus on building local impact ecosystems and supporting startups in sectors such as climate tech, sustainable agriculture, and financial inclusion through a mix of grants, equity investments, and matching funds.

Furthermore, he emphasized MYSC’s broader strategy, including specialized ESG funds (e.g., reforestation and social equity), rigorous impact measurement to monetize social outcomes, and capacity-building efforts such as leadership training and ecosystem development. The lecture underscored the importance of public-private partnerships and international collaboration in achieving sustainable development goals.

In the latter part of the session, case studies demonstrated tangible outcomes, including successful investment returns and enhanced sustainability practices among portfolio companies. He concluded by encouraging students to view finance as a powerful tool for systemic social change and to think beyond traditional investment approaches.

또한 이번 강연에서는 MYSC가 소규모 비영리 컨설팅 기관에서 출발해 현재 약 7천만 달러의 자산을 운용하는 한국의 선도적인 임팩트 투자 및 액셀러레이터 기관으로 성장해 온 과정이 소개되었습니다. 박 정호 부대표님께서는 KOICA의 개발혁신프로그램(DIP)과 포용적 비즈니스 솔루션(IBS)에서 MYSC가 수행하는 역할을 소개하시며, 이를 통해 MYSC는 동남아시아와 인도 전역에서 블렌디드 파이낸스 프로젝트를 수행하고 있다고 하셨습니다. 이러한 이니셔티브는 보조금, 지분 투자, 매칭 펀드를 결합하여 지역 임팩트 생태계를 구축하고, 기후 기술, 지속 가능한 농업, 금융 포용과 같은 분야의 스타트업을 지원합니다.

또한 박부대표님께서는 전문 ESG 펀드(예: 재조림 및 사회적 형평성), 사회적 성과를 수치화하기 위한 성과 측정 방법 개발, 리더십 교육 및 생태계 개발과 같이 MYSC이 다양한 노력 등을 통하여 취하고 있는 포괄적인 전략을 강조하셨습니다. 지속가능발전목표(SDGs) 달성을 위해 민관 협력과 국제적 협력이 얼마나 중요한지 또한 언급해 주셨습니다.

강연 후반부에는 사례 연구를 통해 성공적인 투자 수익과 포트폴리오 기업들의 강화된 지속가능성 실천 등 구체적인 성과를 보여주시며 학생들에게 금융을 체계적인 사회 변화를 위한 강력한 도구로 인식하고, 전통적인 투자 접근 방식을 넘어서는 생각을 해볼 것을 강조하셨습니다.
