On May 8, we had the pleasure of welcoming Dr. Hoon Sang Lee from the RIGHT Foundation.

He introduced us to the role of global health R&D in improving equitable access to essential health technologies, highlighting how the RIGHT Foundation supports the development of vaccines, diagnostics, therapeutics, and digital health technologies for low- and middle-income countries.

The lecture also explored the importance of designing healthcare technologies with “global access” in mind, considering affordability, accessibility, and implementation in resource-limited settings.

Dr. Lee further shared examples of RIGHT-supported projects, including AI-powered tuberculosis screening tools, malaria diagnostic platforms, typhoid conjugate vaccines, and international vaccine manufacturing training programs involving participants from Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

He also emphasized the importance of international collaboration, showcasing partnerships with organizations such as WHO, Gavi, UNICEF, and CEPI to address global health challenges including pandemics, infectious diseases, and health inequities.

Concluding the lecture, Dr. Lee encouraged us to think beyond technological advancement alone and consider how innovation can be translated into equitable healthcare access for communities around the world.

박사님께서는 필수 보건 기술에 대한 공평한 접근성을 확보하기 위한 글로벌 보건 연구개발(R&D) 분야의 역할을 소개해주셨습니다. 또한, RIGHT 재단이 저소득 및 중간 소득 국가를 위한 백신, 진단법, 치료제, 디지털 보건 기술 개발을 어떻게 지원하는지 설명해 주셨습니다.

또한 자원 제약이 환경에서 ‘글로벌 접근성’을 염두에 두고 보건 기술을 설계하는 것이 중요하다는 것을 강조해주셨습니다.

박사님은 AI 기반 결핵 선별 도구, 말라리아 진단 플랫폼, 장티푸스 복합 백신, 그리고 아시아, 아프리카, 라틴 아메리카 참가자들이 참여하는 국제 백신 제조 교육 프로그램 등 RIGHT가 지원하는 프로젝트 사례들을 공유해셨습니다.

또한, 팬데믹, 감염병, 건강 불평등 등 글로벌 보건 과제를 해결하기 위해 WHO, Gavi, 유니세프(UNICEF), CEPI와 같은 기관들과의 파트너십을 소개하시며 국제 협력이 얼마나 중요한지를 설명해주셨습니다.

박사님께서는 기술 발전 그 자체를 넘어, 혁신이 전 세계 지역사회의 공평한 의료 접근으로 어떻게 이어질 수 있을지 고민해 볼 것을 당부하시며 강연을 마무리하셨습니다.
