김영욱 교수는 학교에서 위험 커뮤니케이션, 위기관리와 갈등해소를 가르치고 있다. 이화여자대학교에 부임하기 전에는 미국 일리노이주립대학교에서 교수로 재직하였다. 

또한 하버드대학교 로스쿨 협상프로그램에서 풀브라이트 교환교수로 있었으며, 벨기에 겐트대학교, 싱가포르 난양공과대학교, 태국 출라롱콘대학교, 스위스 루가노대학교에서 

방문교수로 재직하였다. 외부활동으로는 사회적인 커뮤니케이션을 진작하는 NGO인 갈등해결과 대화의 이사장을 맡고 있으며, 많은 정부기관의 자문역을 역임했고, 

다양한 연구 및 자문 프로젝트를 소화하고 있다. 김영욱 교수는 학교에서 학부장과 대외홍보 담당 부처장 등 주요 보직을 역임하였고, 학문적 성과를 인정받아 연구우수상, 

연구비우수상, 강의우수상, 총장연구표창 등 다수의 교내 상을 수상하였다. 또한 국내외 주요 커뮤니케이션 학회에서 다수의 연구 관련 수상을 하였으며, 저서와 관련해서 

학회에서 올해의 저술상을 두 차례 수상하고 대한민국학술원 및 세종도서 등 주요 국가 학술도서 사업에 다섯 차례 선정되었다. 그는 학교에서 매년 우수 연구자로 선정되어 왔으며, 

2024년부터 이화펠로우 기금교수로 선정되었다. 김영욱 교수는 교내를 넘어 국내외적으로도 널리 인정받고 있다. 그는 국가 보건 커뮤니케이션 발전에 기여한 공로로 

대한민국 보건복지부 장관 표창을 수상하였고, 미국에서는 플로리다대학교 로부터 2008년 우수 동문상을 수상한 데 이어, 2009년에는 플로리다대학교 저널리즘대학에 의해 

명예의 전당에 헌액되고 최우수 동문으로 선정되었다. 또한 한국의 주요 신문사인 중앙일보로부터 언론 및 커뮤니케이션 분야에서 가장 생산적인 연구자로 선정되기도 하였다.

Professor Kim teaches crisis management, risk communication, and conflict resolution. Prior to his current position, he taught at Illinois State University. 

He has also served as a Fulbright Exchange Professor at the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School, as well as a visiting professor at Ghent University in Belgium, 

Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, Chulalongkorn University in Thailand, and the University of Lugano in Switzerland. He currently serves as Chair of 

the social communication NGO Conflict Resolution and Dialogue, advises various government ministries, and is actively engaged in a range of research and advising projects.

He has held several administrative leadership roles, including School Dean and Associate Vice President for University Communication. 

His scholarly excellence has been widely recognized through numerous institutional honors, including the Ewha Research Excellence Award, 

Research Grant Award, and Teaching Excellence Award, as well as the President’s Award for Research Excellence. He has received numerous research awards 

from leading communication associations in Korea and abroad, and his books have been recognized with Book of the Year awards on more than seven occasions

 by academic societies and professional institutions. He has been consistently designated as an Outstanding Researcher and has held an endowed Ewha Fellowship since 2024.

Professor Kim has received both national and international recognition. He was awarded a Minister’s Citation from the Minister of Health and Welfare of the Republic of Korea 

for his contributions to national health communication. In the United States, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame and named an Alumnus of Distinction 

by the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications in 2009, following his recognition as an Outstanding Young Alumnus in 2008. 

He was also recognized by JoongAng Ilbo, one of South Korea’s major newspapers, as the most productive communication researcher 

in the field of journalism and communication.
