<Academic Societies in Korea>

• 2018-2020: President of The Korean Society of Special Education (KSSE)

                         - The KSSE is the representative academic society for special education in Korea, encompassing seven branch societies
                            (e.g., Korea Association of Intellectual Disability, The Korean Learning Disabilities Association).

• 2006-2006: Vice President of The Korean Society of Special Education (KSSE)

• 2006-2008: Editor-in-Chief of 『Korean Journal of Special Education』
                             Served as a Board Member and Editorial Board Member for the journal

• 2016–2024: Board Member of Korea Association of Intellectual Disabilities 


<American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD)>

• 1986–Present: Member of the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD; formerly AAMR).

  • Translation and Publication of AAIDD/AAMR Publication

- Translated and published six major volumes in Korea, including four editions of Intellectual Disability: Definition,  Classification, and Systems of Supports (9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Editions), Clinical Judgment, Lives and Legacies of  People With Intellectual Disability.

- These translated volumes are widely used as essential textbooks in undergraduate and graduate programs in special education and disability studies throughout Korea.

• 1994-2011: A Consulting Editor of AAIDD’s a journal 『Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities』

                              (formerly 『Mental Retardation』).

• 2015: Co-Host & Organizer, "2015 AAIDD-EWHA Symposium" (2015 AAIDD Delegation to Korea)

          - Date: September 21, 2015 

          - Venue: Ewha Womans University, Seoul, Korea

          - Theme: "Beyond Opportunity, Quality Education for All in Korea" 

          - Organizers: Seung Hee Park, Ph.D. & Margaret A. Nygren, Ed.D.

• 2016: Received a Certificate of Commendation from AAIDD,

               “In Regognition of 30 years of Continuous Membership in AAIDD” on June 8, 2016, by the president, Dr. Susan B. Palmer

• 2022: Recipient of the AAIDD 2022 International Award (June 15, 2022) 

               • Awarded at the 146th AAIDD Annual Meeting in Jacksonville, Florida, USA.
               - First Korean recipient of this award
